When Josuha first visited Guinea, the country of his ancestors, he was deeply affected by the poverty and difficult living conditions. Moved by the situation of the children, a few years later he decided to found an orphanage in Conakry to offer them a better life.
However, the Josuha Guilavogui Foundation, created in this context, has always aimed to be more than just a refuge. The aim was not only to get orphans off the streets, but also to offer them a loving home and enable them to build a promising future. Every child deserves to be able to dream and build their own future, regardless of their past. This remains a major challenge in a country where a large proportion of the population can neither read nor write.
At the orphanage, we attach the utmost importance to school education, learning fundamental values and the joie de vivre of childhood. During the week, the children attend school, spend the afternoon doing their homework, and then enjoy recreational activities, sports and moments of relaxation. Weekends are devoted to rest and leisure.
Since this summer, the new premises and outdoor spaces have provided a welcoming and suitable environment where the children can flourish. Every day, Josuha and her team on site ensure that the 21 children have not only a warm and safe place, but also a space in which to learn, play and dream about their future.
However, creating and maintaining such a venue represents a constant financial challenge. At present, Josuha Guilavogui covers all the necessary costs. To ensure the orphanage's long-term survival, in 2021 he founded the Josuha Guilavogui Foundation, an official and transparent framework for collecting donations and grants.
Although the cost of living in Guinea is lower than in Europe, there are still many needs: food, clothing, hygiene products, school supplies and toys. Every expense associated with running the orphanage is, and will continue to be, covered by Josuha himself. His dearest wish is for all donations to be used exclusively for the children's day-to-day welfare.
